 Inspiration:

Living by the coast in Devon I spend a lot of time watching seagull antics and protecting my icecream from a  low flying  herring gull. All gulls are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and despite us calling them all seagulls, there are 6 different species that commonly breed in the UK:  the Herring Gull, the Lesser Black-backed Gull, the Great Black-backed Gull, the Black-headed Gull, the Common Gull and the Kittiwake.

Gulls have many ecological roles.  As scavengers, they eat carrion, fish, crustaceans, rodents and bugs, helping to clean up landfills and reducing the amount of methane and ammonia released into the atmosphere.

Their foraging patterns can indicate the availability of prey and their pellets show which prey species are more abundant. This makes them great bioindicators for conservationists, providing information about  the health of marine environments
